Candidate closes presidential campaign in Barranquilla, pledging anti-corruption drive, institutional respect, and political dialogue

Iván Cepeda concluded his presidential campaign this Sunday in Barranquilla’s Barrio Abajo district, where thousands of supporters gathered alongside trade unions, social leaders, and members of the Pacto Histórico coalition for his final rally.

Cepeda described the event as the closing moment of a nationwide campaign that, he said, included more than 150 events across Colombia and was built on direct engagement rather than “spectacle politics.”

“In Barranquilla the campaign ends and the victory begins,” he told the crowd.

A central focus of his speech was corruption and the influence of entrenched political and economic elites in Colombia’s Caribbean region. He pledged that, if elected president, his government would act without exceptions against those who violate public trust.

“There will be no untouchables, no privileges, and no leniency for those who betray public trust. Let it be heard clearly, and let them start trembling now. Lomotil for the corrupt,” he said.

Cepeda also emphasized that his political project was grounded in popular support. “We are from the people and we do not need to wear disguises, identities or masks to deceive anyone,” he said.

He added that his administration would seek dialogue across all sectors of society, including political opponents, while maintaining respect for democratic institutions. “We will dialogue with all sectors of society and also with the political opposition. We will carry out a respectful exchange of ideas because democracy requires listening to those who think differently,” he said.

Cepeda further stated that, on his first day in office if elected, he would publicly honor President Gustavo Petro. “We will pay tribute for fulfilling his commitment to the Colombian people in a coherent way,” he said.

The rally was attended by political figures including former candidates Juan Fernando Cristo and Luis Fernando Murillo, Senator María José Pizarro, and congress members Jaime Santamaría Acosta and Andrea Vargas, all aligned with the Pacto Histórico coalition.

The Barranquilla event marked the final public appearance of Cepeda’s campaign, consolidating his messages on anti-corruption, democratic respect, and political dialogue.
